Sprinklers stop flat fire in tracks

A recent incident in Dundee demonstrates how sprinklers, fire and rescue services and sprinkler installation companies all working together can dramatically minimise the impact of fire on people's homes.
A fire in a bedroom of a ground floor flat which was part of a new housing development completed in October 2024 was extinguished by one concealed pendent sprinkler head. The remaining hot spots were extinguished using one hose reel jet by the FRS.
Ironically engineers representing Discovery Fire Sprinklers, who installed the sprinkler system, happened to be driving past the incident and were able to stop and assist the fire service to identify the sprinkler isolation valve. They returned the following day to reinstate the system.
There were no injuries and the residents were back in their property. There was limited damage to the room ( only 5%) and the property was fully protected from fire by the next day. Thanks to Discovery Fire Sprinklers for sharing this incident and to Dundee Council for having the foresight to install sprinkler systems in all new builds since 2016.
